Feel like making friends is harder than it should be?

That’s exactly why we run the PEERS® Program

a step-by-step course for teens who want to feel more confident socially,

but don’t want to do it alone.

A Testimonial from Terry Butler

PEERS Young Adult Graduate

Maybe you’re the one who gets along with people, but it never seems to go past small talk.

Maybe you’ve tried to join in but it felt awkward or like no one noticed.

Maybe you’re just kind of over trying and want it to feel easier.

Making and keeping friends can feel really confusing.

It’s like everyone else got a manual and you’re still figuring it out as you go.

So...what actually is this?

It’s only 1.5 hours a week for 14-week online with other people your age ( 13 - 17 years )

Each week, you’ll learn one skill to help you feel more confident in social situations — things like:

What to say when you want to start a conversation (without it being weird)

How to deal with teasing or people talking behind your back

How to join group chats or conversations without feeling like you’re intruding

What to do when friendships change or drift

How to plan hangouts and not feel left out

How to fix it when things go wrong socially

We don’t just tell you what to do — we show you. There are example videos, practice games, and real-life situations that actually make sense.

"I would highly recommend."

I am a 14 year old and I did their 14 week zoom call class. It was great and I learned many new things from them. I would highly recommend.

overview

What it’s like

It’s on Zoom, once a week. 1.5 hours for 14 weeks.

There’s a small group of teens, just like you.

You don’t need to have a certain type of personality or skill level.

There’s also someone like a parent, teacher, or coach who supports you on the side — they learn too (but separately).

You’ll get handouts, videos, and even some fun rewards along the way.

$10 prize winner each week

Practice phone calls for 6 weeks

"Professional and always ready to help."

I was fortunate enough to take part in the online 16-week PEERS program in the latter half of 2024. The instructor Christine was relatable to those who are neurodivergent, professional and always ready to help. The other students were amazing and I left that course regretting not getting to know some of them better.

What others are saying

Fantastic adolescent program offered by Christine and her team and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Social Skills to any parent / guardian who is looking to help their child develop social skills, improve communication, and build meaningful relationships. Thank you Christine - we are incredibly grateful for the 14 week program that you have delivered in an engaged and personal way. It was truly a unique experience to learn positive social behaviours and build confidence.

My teenage son recently completed the PEERS Adolescence program at social skills Australia and his transformation has been truly heartwarming. He’s always been a kind and thoughtful child, but he used to struggle with initiating conversations, maintaining eye contact, and navigating group settings. We’ve seen a noticeable improvement in his confidence and ability to connect with others. Christine and Maria were incredibly patient, supportive, and clearly passionate about helping kids grow. I wish we had found this program years ago. Would highly recommend the PEERS program to any parent looking to help their child build strong, lasting social skills.

Amazing PEERS program for teens and young d adults, my son has learnt so many skills, and has come out of his shell so much, thanks you again Chris and Maria

- Samantha Yarnold

The PEERS Program is a must do for ALL young people, teens and young adults - regardless of their ability. My son has autism and a moderate intellectual ability, yet these are skills everyone needs for effective communication and relationship building and which should be taught in schools. Rarely is this the case though, which makes the PEERS Program so essential to do. The Program has been skillfully engineered and researched and breaks every aspect into specific step by step processes. Plus it uses various modes of delivery to communicate the ideas, including videos that demonstrate and re-enforce the step by step processes. Its a super interactive and engaging program not only for the young people but also for the parents and social coaches.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PEERS® Program?

It’s a step-by-step social skills course that helps you learn how to make and keep friends, handle tricky situations (like teasing or disagreements), and feel more confident in social settings. We go through it together over 14 weeks on Zoom.

Who is this program for?

This is for teens who want to get better at things like conversation, making new friends, or knowing what to say in group situations. If social stuff feels a bit confusing or uncomfortable sometimes — this is for you.

Do I have to talk a lot during the sessions?

Nope. You won’t be put on the spot. You’ll be part of a small group where we learn through videos, examples, and fun practice activities. You can take things at your own pace.

What happens if I miss a session?

Life happens — we get it. You’ll be able to catch up using the online portal and we’ll send you the lesson notes and role play videos so you’re never left behind.

Do I need a parent or support person with me?

Yes, we ask that a parent, carer, or support person joins the Monday night coaching sessions. It helps make sure you’re getting support at home while you practice your new skills.

Is this in-person or online?

It’s fully online, via Zoom. You can join from anywhere as long as you have an internet connection and a quiet space to join in.

Will this help me make real friends?

Yes — that’s the goal. We teach you how to confidently connect with others, spot potential friends, start conversations, and build stronger relationships over time. We also give you tools to handle things when they get awkward or tough.

Will there be other kids my age?

Yes! Every group is made up of teens in the same age range, so your child will be learning and practising alongside peers at a similar stage of life.
